A student got electrocuted in Khyber Gojal. Residents blamed Water and Power Department

An intermediate student of the Government Degree College Aliabad Hunza got electrocuted in his hometown in Khyber subdivision Gojal district Hunza. Mr. Rahat Karim S/o Rehmat Karim’s death shocked the town and raised serious concerns among the population. According to local communities, there was another similar case sometime ago. The local communities questioned the planning and administrative capacity of Water and Power Department Hunza.

Farman Baig, local community leader said:

“Violating the standard of procedure, Water and Power Department Hunza recently installed high voltage transmission lines through the residential areas “over rooftops of the houses” posing serious threat to loss of more lives”.

The local communities strongly demanded for an immediate removal of the high voltage transmission lines from the residential areas in order to save lives and associated vulnerabilities and harmful effects. “We are strongly demanding to investigate and punish responsible officials for such negligence,” said Mr. Baig
