Local residents under strict lockdown while non-local tourists are freely moving in valley

Ahmed from Hussaini subdivision Gojal reports on a large number of tourist influxes in his town and on KKH since morning today.

The district administration has completely banned on all types of tourist/ traveling in the district without permit.

Local communities are of the view that residents of the district are in a complete lockdown and forcibly confined to their homes but non-locals in the name of tourist are freely moving around.

According to the local communities, these non-local tourists are family members, relatives and/or friends of the bureaucracy based in Gilgit-Baltistan. They are being fully facilitated by local administration in every district.

Ali Haider, a local athlete said,

“lockdown is only for the poor locals. We are asked to keep distance from each other and majority is quarantined. But these government officers are visiting Hunza with their families for what? Just to make their eid special. I do believe no one is going to do anything, neither DC, AC no one, because they are issuing tourist the so-called legal permit (NOC) to visit Hunza.”
