Civil Society blamed district health department Hunza for the transmission of COVID-19 in the district

The two COVID-19 positive cases reported in Hunza raised serious questions on preparedness and prevention strategy of the district health department. The residents fear that the pandemic might have spread at large scale because the two positive cases (TB control program staff and vegetable vendor) must have been interacted with too many people in the recent past.

Civil society and political activists have blamed District Health Officer for such negligence.

Dr Sherin Sultan from Hunza said,

“Hunza and Ghizar were two covid-19 free districts but due to mismanagement both have positive cases. There are no proper facilities for quarantine, isolation and management of suspects and positive patients. DHO seems to be too relaxed about the situation.”
