Unknown persons painted the historic and century old rock carving in Chilas

Residents of Gilgit-Baltistan are concerned over painting on mountains having centuries old rock carvings by unknown individuals/groups for the last few years.

According to local sources, these historical rock carvings and petroglyphs etched on both banks of the river Indus are being painted with black colour. Those painted spaces are filled with patriotic lines and slogans as well as advertisements of different brands.

Dr Rehman Alvi showed his concerns and said,

“This is pity that we as a nation are so ignorant of history and no sense of environmental contamination. We all love Pakistan but should resistant delusional ideologues.”

Muhammad Usman Mardanwi, am archeologist and writer said,

“It is so sad that Tourism Departure of GB is in deep sleep. Concerned department should take action against them.”

Muhammad Rafi, a tourist said,

“The inscription upon these rocks are thousands of years old along the bank of Indus River at Chilas town in GB. Such monuments should not be molested rather they need to be preserved.”
