A whistle blower from Chitral reports mega corruption in donor funds

A whistle blower from Broghil valley in district Chitral reports mega corruption in donor funds to construct guesthouses in the valley.

“After returning back to my sweet home valley Broghil, I found many sign boards of various projects completed in Broghil valley. I have found five single room with attached toilet guest houses built by the funding support of PATRIP with implementing partners AIRPORT and AKAH.” said Umar Rafi – a local activist.
He continued the story “The room size is around 12 by 10 having space for a double bed inside and there is no more space for a single side chair and table. They are built with stones and wood.”

“When I further investigated regarding the construction process. They have hired special private contractor and hired consultant to build one room guesthouse for five families. Unfortunately the communities’ do not knows the real budget spent on construction. But we have found out that more than R’s 1.5 million spent on the designing and construction this building.” he claimed.

He further said, “When I visited last time in April 2020, I wanted to sleep inside one guest house and it was rain fall outside. I wanted to pay the family R’s 2000 per night, but unfortunately when we entered the room, the water of rain was leaking through the roof and the owner family has placed several bowl under the leakages. There has been shameful corruption in this project.”

“I can build much better guest house having double bed rooms, attached toilets with a kitchen for R’s 1 million. I have requested several times the Engineer to share us the budget, but still didn’t get any response. If a single bedroom with only smallest size attached bathroom is built for R’s 2 million. We cannot accept such blunders in the name of development of local community. It is unacceptable, it is just wastage of resources.”

He further pointed out that “many other basic facilities are lacking there like water tank, kitchen, chairs, tables, dressing tables etc.. Who is the responsible the contractor or consultant or the implementing organization or local community? We need to find out.. We can build much better or best quality rooms with only R’s 3 to 5 lac.”

Communities in the valley has showed serious concern over such cheating and misappropriation and demanded detailed investigation.
