Air quality improving in GB after lockdown – GBEPA claimed
Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency announced that after the lockdown in Gilgit-Baltistan the air quality is improving drastically that is impacting positively on human health, vegetation, wildlife and overall eco-system. Gilgit-Baltistan is a mountainous region where annual it witnesses biomass burning and vehicular emissions due to significant increase in the traffic, said Khadim Hussain, Assistant Director EPAGB.
He further said:
“Prominent issues in terms of air quality in Gilgit-Baltistan is nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and PM 2.5 (dust particles which damage lungs). Pollution seriously affects patients of Asthma and people with respiratory illness. Also it badly affects wildlife and vegetation as well.”
Haider Raza, Head of WWF Gilgit-Baltistan said, “Lockdown resulted a drastic change in the sir quality and overall environment. In Gilgit-Baltistan PM 2.5 decreased to a record level which has a positive impact on human health and overall ecosystem.
