FIA arrested eight officials illegally benefited from BISP

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested eight officials of two government departments for allegedly benefiting from the Benazir Income Support Programme (PISP).

According to The Punch, seven of the arrested officials belonged to the GB education department and the one from the AGPR Gilgit got their spouses registered with the BISP and minted money for years despite the fact that they did not deserve to apply for the scheme, aimed at providing monetary assistance to the poorest of poor. Abdul Qayyum (BPS-17), Muhammad Zafran (BPS-19), Sher Khan (BPS-17), Mehfooz Ullah (BPS-18), Najam Khan (BPS-18), Ibrahim (BPS-17) and Amjad Iqbal (BPS-17) are among the arrested officers. The arrested of the AGPR was identified as Inayat Hussain Rana, a BPS-17 official.

The sources said that the money received by these officials in the name of their wives have been recovered and they will be presented before the special court for their formal remand. According to the sources in the FIA, they would recommend stern departmental disciplinary action against the arrested officials if they failed to satisfy the investigators during the formal remand. The source said that public servants having themselves or their spouses declared as beneficiaries face the risk of dismissal from the job if they fail to satisfy the investigators.
According to the sources, in the first phase, their facilitators will also be detained for questioning.
